Manly Contest of the Week: Def Leppard vs. Van Halen

You know if the Revolutionary War occured twice the second time for sure would have been between these two bands. Def Leppard singing "God Save the Queen" and Van Halen was just a bunch of yanks. But really who is the better band? In showmanship the answer is obvious: Van Halen. No band has had near the ability to entertain and wow audiences, but there is something to be said about a band whose drummer only has one arm. To make it better, the drums tend to be what leads Def Leppard's music. I am going to have to go against my prejudices on this one and award Def Leppard the victor.

Manly contests of the week: Cheney vs Stalin...

I dont know what I would rather have, a waterboard bath or freezing to death in a Russian Gouloge. Honestly, Stalin was an evil man, Cheney just damn clever. This is a contest of braun vs. braun, though both were notorius schemers. Upon further review, I have to go with Cheney, this is man who literally almost doesnt have a heart (or not a functioning one at least),Stalin died in a pool of his own vomit. True Stalin killed more people, but I doubt this tyrannt had the ability to shoot somebody in the face with bird shot...then have the recipient apologize for being shot. Through and through, true blue American Cheney takes the cake!

Manly Boute of the Week: The Joker vs. The Joker

It is very rare that two men do such a good job playing the same part. This was the case with both Joker roles in Batman and The Dark Knight. Jack Nicholson brings a humurous and charismatic performance while Heath Ledger makes you wet your pants. The question is...who would win in a contest between these two super villians? For charm and pzazz, Jack Nicholson is definately the winner, but for true evil and fear nothing can beat Heath Ledger. That is why for this week's manly showdown I have to award it to Christopher Nolan's choice in 2008's The Dark Knight. Jack Nicholson is the greatest obsessive compulsive maniac though, Heath is just insane

Ahh....Utah

Living in Utah has taught me a few things. I have learned to appreciate my home state, good flat roads and clean air. It has taught me to appreciate simple people, not the collar popped, pink shirted Prius driving tools that seem to saturate this state. But mostly, I have come to see Utah for what it really is...a bunch of hicks living in the city desperately trying to to Californian but failing in every way. They speak of there spiritual superiority and ideal life style. What a bunch of malarkey! All I can say is this life is Utah is surely NOT elevated! The above picture explains this frustration perfectly.

A culture without heroes

Maybe it is just me, but I have noticed that we live in a society that has no heroes or venerates people who are not deserving of that honor. I personally believe heroes can come in many forms either that be reality or in fiction, just as long as they are people whom you seek to emulate. To me a great example is Samwise Gamgee from the Lord of the Rings novels. He is everything a person ought to appreciate. Loyal, courageous, friendly, and above all a good friend. I think the world would do a bit better if we were all a bit more "Sam-ish" in life.
